Nicolas Jaar LIVE

Forevermark Diamonds presents MUSIC @ MOCA

Produced by Rum Bum Live and Too Live, Inc

December 7, 8:30 pm
Mondrian Hotel, South Beach

North Miami, FL…. Electronic music prodigy Nicolas Jaar will be performing a sensational live concert on Friday, December 7 at The Mondrian Hotel (1100 West Avenue) in South Beach as part of the Museum of Contemporary Art’s comprehensive Art Basel programming. The world-class show, a unique presentation in a beautiful outdoor setting, will see Jaar performing with an array of keyboards, synthesizers and his own singing on a vintage microphone. Presented by Forevermark Diamonds, the responsibly sourced diamond brand from the De Beers group of companies, and produced by Rum Bum Live and Too Live, Inc. with support from Oh Really?! Entertainment, the concert will launch a newly invigorated Music @ MOCA series.

Tickets for Music @ MOCA: Nicolas Jaar LIVE are $25 for General Admission and $5 for MOCA Shaker or above members. VIP tickets are $40, include free drinks via private VIP bars and access to dedicated balcony seating during the concert. Tickets are available on the MOCA website, www.mocanomi.org.

One of the most important and in-demand musicians in the electronic music world today, Jaar refers to his ruminative and emotional musical style as ‘blue-wave’, drawing inspiration from fellow-Chilean Ricardo Villalobos and minimal techno.

Most of Jaar’s groundbreaking compositions reside at 100 BPM or lower, far lower than the techno/house standards of 120-130 BPM. “I’m going to keep taking the beats even slower,” he says in an interview with Resident Advisor, the dance and electronic music magazine.  “More unintentional things happen between the beats.”

Jaar released his debut album, Space Is Only Noise in January 2011 to critical acclaim, receiving a score of 8.4 “Best New Music” from Pitchfork and four stars from The Guardian. It was ranked #1 album of the year by Resident Advisor, Mixmag, Crack Mag, #2 by DJ Mag and #20 by Pitchfork. His track “Don’t Break My Love” also received Best New Music by Pitchfork in late 2011.

A trip to NY for Da Vinci Resolve Training with the ICA

Recently I traveled to Manhattan for a week of training on Da Vinci Resolve. As an editor for the past 6 years I was excited to expand my knowledge in the art and technique of color grading. Learning how to grade would allow me to expand my services as both an Editor and Colorist on behalf of Rum Bum Film & HD Studios.

The course was offered through Manhattan Edit Workshop (http://www.mewshop.com). At MEW, many instructors offer training in Adobe products, FCP, Scratch, Da Vinci Resolve and other software. For this particular course, Da Vinci Resolve 101,201 and Looks, I would be in a classroom for six days. The instructor, Warren Eagles from the ICA, was a great guy from Australia who had more than 20 years of experience working as a Colorist under his belt. If you are interested in the courses Warren and other ICA Instructors have to offer check out their site http://icolorist.com/.

So day one and two of the course covered the basics of the program which included creating a new project,  the configurations page, importing xml’s and edl’s and conforming offline edits.  On day three we were graduating from the basics of Resolve and moving onto bigger and better things…Resolve 201. Once we got into day four and five we were playing around with trackers, layer mixers, qualifiers and other advanced colorist toolsets. One of my favorites was creating the illusion of day-for-night ( the technique of taking a scene shot in the day and making it look as if it were filmed at night) .Though this technique is a well known technique in the post-production world, there are many ways to create the look. It was cool to see what other students came up with for their day-for-night look. By day six we were onto Warren’s Looks course which covered all the stylistic looks that were originally created in the film days by manipulating the negative and bathing it in chemicals. Some of the films we covered on the topic of looks were, Transformers(orange and teal), Saving Private Ryan( Bleach Bypass), Domino( Color Reversal).

I think what amazed me the most in creating looks was that that the technique was originally created in film and if you understood how they were created in film then creating them digitally was a breeze.

Rum Bum Racing Takes 2012 GRAND-AM Team Championship

Lakeville, Conn. (4 October 2012) - Luis Bacardi’s Rum Bum Racing capped off a dominating season by winning the final race of the year at Lime Rock Park and securing the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Team Championship.

The team, which signaled its championship intentions with a huge victory in its very first race at Daytona International Speedway in January 2010, clinched the team championship title when drivers Nick Longhi and Matt Plumb drove to their fifth victory of the season - as the team won half of this year’s race events. The team was able to deliver this incredible performance despite their successes motivating GRAND-AM to add 150 lbs in extra ballast to their Porsche 911, just to let other teams try and keep up. It didn’t work.

Rum Bum Racing Takes Championship Hit in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (27 July 2012) – After a race that saw history being made, two and a half hours of frantic racing, heavy rain storms, a red flag, and some questionable driving from a familiar source, Rum Bum Racing will leave the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a banged up Porsche but a small lead in the provisional Team Championship points.

Longhi opened the 2.5-hour race from the ninth position in the 73-car field, running in the top-10 throughout the beginning stages of the race. The Rum Bum squad took advantage of the second full course caution of the race to call the No. 13 to pit road out of ninth place for a routine pit stop and driver change. Longhi handed the car over to Plumb while the team performed another flawless pit stop to return the Porsche to the track 16th in the order.
